Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

coming from using windows, then windows/mint dual boot and finally Manjaro (gnome) , i regret wasting time on mint which i heard was the easiest transition from windows being a new linux user. i can honestly say that manjaro has been far more intuitive and capable than mint and the quality of support via manjaro and arch forum/wiki was much easier to identify and fix any issues ive come across (nvidia/intel optimus problems for example).

when i switched to mint, my kids then wanted me to install mint on theyre laptops and so i did and now i wish i waited because now when they have a question or an issue to fix , it always leaves me thinking "this is so much simpler on manjaro" . i'll be switching them over to manjaro soon enough as it seems much more beneficial for them to learn using linux via manjaro. as for myself i am manjaro only , windows eventually just became that pain in the ass os just sucking up half of my sshd and im glad to be rid of it. between Manjaro's repository and the Arch repo, there is very little you cant find on there . i didnt even know manjaro was #1 on distrowatch until today, but it definitely deserves the spot.

if you want something that wont leave you feeling like you need another os then give Manjaro a try.

Manjaro is amazing!

It is based on Arch, so it has almost all the same benefits. The only difference is with Arch, you install only the packages you really want. That is a gift a curse with Arch because then you HAVE to choose (and very often configure) every package. Manjaro comes with a very sane selection of packages by default, and they are pre-configured to a certain level of overall consistency. I can deal with that for the massive times savings. Manjaro has been very stable for me. I have (not yet) had it die and require a reinstall.

Updating the entire system is really fast, thanks to pacman.

Being based on Arch also means that Manjaro inherits the Arch Wiki as a resource. The Arch Wiki, in my opinion, is the single greatest, most useful Linux resourse out there!

One really nice surprise was the addition of web wrappers for Microsoft Office products. They show up in the menu just like other programs, replete with icons. That is expecially great for me as a student, so I don't have to switch to Windows *just* to properly edit Excel or PowerPoint.

I prefer the KDE version, but the XFCE version is pretty sweet too.

The only thing I could maybe take issue with is the choice of default icons and color scheme. It is not the slickest-looking setup for me. But again, it is a sane and reasonable choice that shouldn't put anyone off.

This is my go-to Linux distro, hands down.

Manjaro is all I want:
stable, always fresh (rolling release), easy to install and to use, offers huge amount of software.
It comes with various desktops (I prefer KDE).
But the most important point for me: it is based on arch but on ubuntu.
I lost confidence in the reliability and confidentiality of cannonical OS.
