Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Just perfect, easy to use, easy to install packages, everything works with no bugs, and it's pretty. Awesome.

My most interest in searching for linux distrubutions is finding distros that are non-technical-user-friendly. Like a grandmother. That I could switch from using Windows. That said I found Manjaro well overrated... Starting from the download page, which do not simply shows freaking one big "Download" button, and the installer which shows you list of some weird options on the first screen, that you don't really know what to do with, and ending on software customization and installation.
Im an IT guy. A senior technial IT admin. But still can judge things from the unexperienced user perspective, and from that point of view, Manjaro is an NO GO.
It doesn't really matter if you have a big community support, or every single software package available. Casual users doesnt really care about it. Things you need to have is an easy to install, easy to operate, stable system with good UI. Otherwise you wont convince anyone to drop Windows OSes.
While tinkering with Manjaro I was attacked by way to many warnings, alerts and app crashes that I'd like to, that would make linux wannabe panic. First step I took is to install Chromium browser - took me a while to find the search button in the add/remove software applet. Then it thrown some uneccessary warnings about dependencies which I do not really care about. I just wanted to install chromium, I don't care that there are some dependencies needed... just shut up and install them.
Anyway, my voyage to find easy to use, learn and adopt Linux stopped at Mint 19.1, and so far Manjaro doesnt seem to be even close to that.

Certainly not a distro I'd recommend for "regular" computer users. Learning curve is a bit steep for anyone coming to Linux from MicroS*ft.
