  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Nice looking Ubuntu based. Installation and boot is very slow, even after VBox is disabled. Once Lite has been completely loaded te performance is good.

Don’t be fooled by the name. Linux Lite is not a stripped down “flyweight” distro. There are much lighter Linux distros out there designed to keep ancient PCs alive like Pupply Linux or anti-X. Those are not sexy distros by any means but they will get the job done.
Linux Lite is a lightweight distro in comparison to Windows XP or Windows 7...which it was designed to replace. LL should technically be classified as a “middleweight” distro, similar to MX-Linux or Peppermint. It is fully featured and designed for new users who want do ordinary stuff (homework, taxes, movies, social media, etc). It’s not designed with computer programmers, professional gamers or bitcoin miners in mind.
I recommend Linux Lite to my less-than high-tech family and friends who just want an easy to use computer that does not get viruses and such.

Apparently due to lack of resources, developers, time or various combinations thereof they are not maintaining the system as it should be. Bugs keep popping up for various applications the latest of which is for 'updates' where the user is advised to go to Forums and report bug also gimp in all their #4 series, not a good place for someone migrating from Windows would want to be. Better O/S might be Mint or Xubuntu which is even lighter than Mint for Linux starters. To be more specific it seems to me that using the system for a while, everything seems to work fine for some period of time and then for some reason bugs start popping up here and there and you find yourself spending more time fixing same than you may have bargained for and being new to Linux that may require a little more effort than you bargained for. At any rate that is my personal experience others may find a different experience depending on their individual skills in fixing bugs etc.
