Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

This review is specifically in response to criticism: "it's not really serious".
1. This distro removes systemd from Tails. Systemd (from informal French term: Système D) is an unknown security risk- it's complex, attempts to do many tasks, and loads before many security systems are ready. This is just an educated opinion. Breeches haven't been observed,... yet. But it leads one to question the direction of Tails and it's security.

2. It's much easier to save settings and data on heads than Tails. You can have a clunky persistence partition on a Tails USB device, but its buggy. Keeping an encrypted distro in your pocket is often more than good enough security. If your enemy can connect you to your portable device, and to a particular computer you used it on at a certain time; whether the system partition is read-only is going to be the least of your worries. I'm tempted to say Tails sometimes has impractical, "tinfoil hat" precautions. Sometimes you just need to save things in memory. heads.

3. It's offered as a replacement boot environment for UEFI on certain Thinkpads that have firmware flashed with Coreboot. Instead of proprietary BIOS to UEFI, they can boot from Coreboot to "heads". That's taking security pretty seriously, and a perfect example of what it can do that Tails can't.

heads works for me!

Fantastic! Been looking for a systemd free alternative to TAILS, thank you ever so much to the creators/maintainers. TAILS now wants to look in your encrypted drives, that worries me!

is he still alive?
It's not at the level of Tails, which is currently the best.
