EndeavourOS

Last Update: 2019-09-19 14:25 UTC

EndeavourOS is a rolling release Linux distribution based on Arch Linux. The project aims to be a spiritual successor to Antergos - providing an easy setup and pre-configured desktop environment on an Arch base. EndeavourOS uses the Xfce desktop by default and is installed by the Calamares graphical system installer.

Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

I started my Linux journey 6 years ago when I left Windows for Ubuntu 12.04. As with most users, Ubuntu was the distro that convinced me to ditch the comfort of Windows, and start looking for solutions when a problem occurs. however, after a few years I found out about Arch and the bleeding edge rolling release convenience it brings. So I ditched Ubuntu 16.04 in favor of Manjaro, because Arch was just too hard to set up. I enjoyed Manjaro for a few years until I finally ditched it in favor of pure Arch. Needless to say there is nothing quite like using pure Arch. But I wanted my non-Linux friends to experience Linux without the bloat of Ubuntu, and without the update delay of Manjaro. So I tried EndeavourOS and oh boy did it work. I tried ArchLabs, ArchBang and Antergos before trying out EndeavourOS, and I have to say, EndeavourOS beats the other Arch distros by miles. It is the closest thing to Arch without the unnecessary apps or repositories that come with Manjaro.
In my opinion, EndeavourOS is the BEST Linux distro yet, and the best way to get laymen experience the power of Arch.
I would love to support EndeavourOS by programming for them.

Ive been running pure arch for a year now, and thought try out endeavouros , i am very pleased as it is setup as a good environment for arch with most settings done, i had to set a few settings like mousepad click and brightness was not holding setting which i know how to setup in grub. it is light & fast and good for all who want to try arch based linux

biggest problems so far:
I have a lot of trouble updating through a proxy (arch does not have these problems)
ships only XFCE Desktop until now (which i personally don't like but in this case it does actually look quite good)
on my main machine the installation failed unfortunatelly
it could use more install options (for example "minimal install", "recommended install" and "complete install")
installer is way simpler than arch, but still to complicated for beginners

but so far this is an awesome little distribution

my biggest hope is on the netInstaller that is said to come this year

I say give it a year and we'll maybe have an even better Antergos2
