Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Most linux distros are geeky and that isn't a bad thing. But Elementary OS manages to give you the customization and power of Linux but in a very beautiful easy-to-use environment. This distro is great for putting on relatives old laptops to bring new life to old hardware while not scaring them away with the heaviness that can be switching to Linux.

Very pleasant to use !

Simple, beautiful and inviting.
It runs well on modest configurations and is very stable.

It still suffers from some bugs and issues, some of them for a long time (hibernation, screens stacking). Overall the issues are minor.

The app center is great and is only missing more curated content.
The pay what you want model is a nice feature and I'm tempted to make some apps of my own.

The OS is very accessible to non technical users and Linux noobs in general, but is no less powerful for other users, devs in particular.
Linux veterans may dislike that the kernel updates take a long time and some packages are not as up to date as other distros. Tinkering and tweaks are possible but discouraged.

It's missing some features and polish to be perfect.

8/10 : it's my main OS and I'm slowly ditching Windows 10.

Elementary OS 5.0 Juno Review

Elementary OS 5.0 Juno offers a beautiful UI via the Pantheon Desktop, it is clean and clutter free. The ISO size is a tad below 1.5 GB and installation is without any hiccups thanks to the well tested Ubiquity Installer. Boot times are satisfactory and the Distro is good to go, Although it doesn't have many ore-installed apps. It offers great app compatibility and is super stable.

Elementary OS focuses mainly on non-technical users, and has a pay-what-you-want model, Which I feel is a step in the right direction as it allows users to use the distro free of cost while allowing donations for those who would like to support it

The App Center is quite handy and has almost all the applications you would need without going through the hassle of the terminal which is especially helpful for newbies. Whereas for experienced users the Terminal is available although adding PPAs need a slight workaround.

Although not for the Power-Users, Elementary OS 5.0 Juno Overall offers a great experience
