EasyOS

Last Update: 2019-02-23 15:38 UTC

EasyOS is an experimental Linux distribution which uses many of the technologies and package formats pioneered by Puppy Linux. The distribution features custom container technology called Easy Containers which can run applications or the entire desktop environment in a container. Packages, desktop settings, networking and sharing resources over the network can all be controlled through graphical utilities.

Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Up to now I am really liking this experimental distro, it is more stable than some better known distros and runs well from a usb stick on my older hardware which is correctly recognised and supported. No waiting Minutes for start or shutdown to complete either.
I have found all the applications I need for everyday use but have not yet figured out how to install brother drivers for my MFC device. Maybe I will have to read someof the confusing ? documentation, what I have read up to now has not confused me, not yet anyway.

I am very impressed with what Barry has come up with, lovely sample of what comes out when a lateral thinking Aussie genius goes to work.

Thanks mate please just let the moaners go back to mint or wherever they feel happy.

I've been playing with EasyOS on my laptop since v0.8.1. More and more it is becoming the most used. The containers are a very nice feature. Complete separation for external facing programs (browser, e-mail, etc) is excellent for security.

Really nice container stuff. This is the really interesting part of this experimental distro.
Many thanks to Mr. Kauler
