Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

This got me to finally install and learn to work within i3 window manager!

I am a ridiculously ignorant yet curious newb that tinkers with different OS's on my different laptops (thinkpad, 2010 macbook, asus transformer). So far I've encountered an update issue or broke my GUI or worse through setting-tinkering for most of the top distros and their GUIthat has left me (due to my current lack in skill/knowledge) to end up feeling lost and without options (even after a day or two search thru forums etc.

The distro solves this by having a really encouraging ecosystem (website, youtube vid tutorials, roadmap) for guiding ppl through most any GUI desktop environ/window manager available in the AUR. My fave ISO provided right now has 3 desktop environments for me to play and tinker with. I had always wanted to learn the i3 wm for productivity and focus purposes but never could advance very far through manjaro/fedora/ubuntu/solus distros because the combination of slower updates on the i3 spins and the intimidation over committing to an ISO/spin with ONLY i3 was too much for me.

Well with the arcolinux base ISO I get to start in a VERY familiar environment that gradually and intuitively empowers me to learn/try/master other more graphically minimal environments! I'm so amazed and blessed to have such an inspiring confidence/skill/curiosity-building approach to OS before.
