Table Notes and Explanations

(Please refer to the table below.)
  • Select view: Major packages only (52) All tracked packages (226)
  • To compare the software in this project to the software available in other distributions, please see our Compare Packages page.
  • Notes: In case where multiple versions of a package are shipped with a distribution, only the default version appears in the table. For indication about the GNOME version, please check the "nautilus" and "gnome-shell" packages. The Apache web server is listed as "httpd" and the Linux kernel is listed as "linux". The KDE desktop is represented by the "plasma-desktop" package and the Xfce desktop by the "xfdesktop" package.
  • Colour scheme: green text = latest stable version, red text = development or beta version. The function determining beta versions is not 100% reliable due to a wide variety of versioning schemes.

Worked great on my12 year old Sony Vaio so I decided to install it on a new HP Pavilion 17" AMD A-10 with a Radeon R6 and 8GB of DDR3L. The XFCE installer crashed multiple times and finally corrupted the MBR that I had to run DBAN to clean it up which took 18 hours.

I'm stubborn and don't give up easy so I tried it one last time and viola it installed. Then I went about updating the system and that's where the real troubles began. Multiple errors on boot (couldn't launch kernel modules) and too many errors to mention here.

Software installation was unsuccessful so many times that it felt like the repos were coming from Turkey via a 1200 baud modem. The only application I was able to install was Chromium, which crashed the first time I tried to open it.

Save yourself some time and frustration and install MX-18 (not a big fan) or any good Arch based distro. I personally like BSD. Very stable and does what it was intended for.
