tiny but extendable
ideal for usb-sticks
ideal for separate installations
very sparse .iso image but access to huge repository.
pro:
fast booting
rundown with backup set to "NONE" avoids leaving tracks on your hdd
cutting surfing tracks to small pieces
con:
a lot of RAM is required if you install many "big" tools like LibreOffice or even browsers like firefox.
help:
use different installations with appropriate extensions,
avoid installing programs that tend to create cross-reaction effects

Looks great and works very fast, only problem is in Virtual Box, the mouse keeps acting up, it eventually corrects itself though.

I found this distro to be the BEST for my taste and needs.
Small, very flexible and tweakable.
Support, community is fine.
Very good design decisions made.
Just workz!
( Though NOT for the lazy. )
For those that are willing to work and learn.

Tiny Core Linux is wonderfull!
Once I needed to have a flash drive with OS, which will work everywere, and Tiny Core appears to be the most lightweight, fast and extendable at the same time.
One-touch making all your software to reside in RAM or on external (or internal) drive.
Perfect /home backup strategy.
Extremely flexible - flash drive can be booted with or without EFI, with the choices:
1. 32-bit system and software (4G for all).
2. 64-bit system and the same 32-bit software (4G per process).
3. Pure 64-bit system and 64-bit software.
Comprehensive boot options.
Several versions on the same flash drive (now i have 6.4.1, 9.0 and 10.0 on the same flash, with simply configurable boot menu).
Advantages are endless, and one of the main is the book "Into The Core", great one! If you want to try Tiny Core, read it first, it will open your eyes on how clear can be the system architecture. It can be downloaded from the project site.
Forum is very responsive.
The best way to learn Linux, i expect. Many thanks to Robert Shingledecker, founder, and developers team!

No GUI way to change keyboard map (language);
the boot menu contains many entries and low amount of description;
i see no way to install it on my HDD;
firefox-latest package i am unsure how to use it to setup FF
advantage is it is lightweight and appear to contains most important things in order to be useable

Thank you for this. It revived my 512mb ram, 30+gb hdd laptop.
I configured it with the latest firefox and VLC player and nothing else... a bundle of joy indeed.
It takes 45 seconds to boot. And once in the machine is quite responsive. The first time it launches the browser it do take a while (in seconds not mins though). Love it. I hope to make many more machines to tiny core. And the options are immense.
A big salute to the entire team. You guys rock!!!

Looking at the reviews of Tiny Core on DistroWatch, I can see why it gets so many great reviews, Just installed this today, and already it's one of the best distros I ever had. It's super fast, I love the set up, and love the way JWM looks on it.. It's easy to use, easy to update, and it just seems perfect to me.

I've been using TCL since release 5.4 and sometimes I chuckle aloud because I'm so tickled with it.
Definitely stay current with it to benefit by more recent hardware support, like whatever it takes to get your wifi adapter working. This was the biggie for me in the latest 9.0 release. That plus a recent kernel.
I use it with a wide variety of thin clients I have. On the low end, All releases of TCL have run lickedky split from a frugal install on a machine with 100mb of available ram and a 256mb DOM. This is a perfect targer for TCL.
gcc has problems finding its libraries (for me) in 9.0, but who expects TCL to be a developer environment.
Remember that unless you intentionally save something from ram to disk, rebooting gives you a fresh start from any(?) ill-fated adventure.

Installed the 8.1 version yesterday (9/4/17) with the 16mb Tiny core. I've been using Tiny Core since the beginning. It was my 1st Linux Distro, and I will use no other. Simply put, my all time favorite Distro. Everything just works, even though some extensions are outdated. No need for me to use anything else.

I have a 1.2GHz P3 + 512mb ram system dual booting TC Linux and Windows 98SE. It took some tinkering to get BOINC to work in TC, but the system has now been happily crunching SETI@home since Feb. 2017. Firefox works quite well for web browsing and file downloads. 98SE just for retro gaming.

it is a great distro for a very very small size.
then the issue I have is that some essential packages are not present or very outdated.
I looked at porting some packages to TC but that requires too much investment for a niche distro.
nice experience though and can be good for an embedded system for example.
Have a look at Alpine as well, it is promising

Very fast Linux Distro, that is easy to set up, and for its size, it works great. The only 2 cons I can think of is, that on Virtual Box, I can't get it to full screen resolution, and some of the videos don't play. Otherwise, it's a perfect little Distro.

It does what it needs to do, and that's why it's great.
Tested this in a VitualBox with 8 times the ram it needs, and
*shifts into maximum override*
This is speed: x
This is Tiny Core: xx
It is beyond speedy, I love it. If you have a computer with below 128mb of ram, GET THIS. Debian says it can run on that, but for MAXIMUM OVER- I mean performance, you should get this.
Of course, I'll be sticking with Debian because I have a bit of ram to burn!

Brilliant! Easily the best distribution out there. Pretty Good wiki and detailed instructions. Into the Core is a great read, even if this distribution isn't your cup of tea, it's a great learning medium.

Just installed the 8.0 version released on 4/10/17, and as usual, a totally superior Linux distro, that always works. Personally, no Independent Linux Distro that I can think of works better for only the measly size it takes too download and use it. No cons what so ever. Highly recommended. Always been a favorite.

Great distribution. Should be much higher ranked. The parallel dCore version can use Debian/Ubuntu repositories with full dependency checking (and easy to add alien Deb/Ubuntu repositories). It is brilliant with an amazing concept, design and implementation. Once configured easy to update. I give it 10/10 because really it is hard to fault and support team is very responsive.
